Font - My company used me to comply with another company's travel requirements to demonstrate they are wrong.
  • 03
Font - I worked for a British company in telecoms, and we won a bid for a Mexican contract. Besides the product itself, it meant they'd need pre and post
  • 04
Font - sales support in order to realise the real benefits and integrate seamlessly. For me, that meant regular trips from the UK to Mexico, flying out Sunday, working 16+ hours days Monday to Thursday, returning Friday.
  • 05
Font - It was intense, hard work but fulfilling. The first three of these trips went seamlessly, but before the 4th, the company changed travel policy, stipulated economy class flights, and took a day off the trips.
  • 06
Font - They were told this would be counterproductive, but didn't want to hear it. We complied... I flew cattle.
  • 07
Font - On the way out, I didn't have space to open the laptop, so I couldn't work. I also couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep.... So I arrived unprepared, tired and jet lagged.
  • 08
Font - Travel fatigue and jetlag meant I wasn't properly functional until Wednesday, so they affectively lost my productivity for two days on top of the flight hours.
  • 09
Font - The economy ticket wasn't adjustable without a whopping fee, so they didn't. change the return flight back to Friday.
  • 10
Font - The company saved £5k on fees, flights and hotel, but got one day of work instead of five. The policy was scrapped after that visit.

Font - 3 hr. ago I'll never understand this. Stuff costs money. What makes these bean counters think they can just forgo paying for stuff they HAVE TO PAY FOR. cum-on-in- They lose more money than they save!!!

Font - ThisIs_americunt 33 min. ago because they've been told by the CEO to save every penny so he can pocket it all and tell the lowly workers that its a tough year and they won't be getting raises

Font - googdude 3 hr. ago Also it's very true the saying; a happy employee is a productive employee.
  • 16
Font - Swiggy1957 +4 -2 hr. ago Apparently the company realized quickly that their idea s cked, as they dropped it so quickly. I can imagine the bean counter got a talking to about it. "We saved this much money, but it lost this much productivity."

Font - akulowaty • 1 hr. ago My old company refused to reimburse me 20PLN (less than 5€!!!) for ryanair tickets because flying is only for execs. They didn't mind paying me 8 times more for train tickets though.

Font - last_rights +2.3 hr. ago I work in retail, we call the corporate policy makers "desk jockeys" because they've never actually worked on the floor with customers and don't know how it works in the real world.

Font - curmudgeon55. 2 hr. ago "... because the bean counters are disconnected from the actual work." Nailed it! Brava! I'm going to get this framed and hang it the wall behind my desk.

Font - AffectionateFruit454 +2. 2 hr. ago I worked for a place that was fairly flexible on travel. I demonstrated how by flying on a Saturday and covering my hotel, it was cheaper than flying me on Monday. Got to spend time with family and friends on some of my business trips.

Font - Savvy Sillybug +3.2 hr. ago But if they don't extract the maximum misery out of their employees, are they even a real company? /s
  • 22
Font - Baron_Bran 2 hr. ago I went through that as well. I stipulated that if they wanted me to arrive ready to work, I needed to fly first class.
